01The challenge
Online exams usually fail at two points: students seeing a paper that isn’t theirs, and a result that is a bare number saying nothing about where they went wrong. The first is a permissions problem, the second a data-model problem.
02What we built
Exams are attached to a group rather than directly to a student: a student belongs to a group and the group has its exams — so targeting happens structurally rather than through manual filtering.
Results are stored at two levels: the overall exam result and a per-question result. The student sees where they went wrong, and the teacher sees which question most students missed — information that improves the material, not just the grade.
03The outcome
Targeting became structural so no paper appears to the wrong cohort, and question-level analysis gave teachers a signal about the material itself.
